Tools

Invidious is a tool to access Youtube content. It scrapes the data directly from Youtube’s servers and gives you the raw video files. This means it comes without the onerous surveillance and bloated scripts. It also runs no ads, loads much quicker and is a much cleaner experience. It is an open source project which anybody can host. My favourite instance is run by Tux from Monerotalk

Sci-hub is a site which enables access to thousands of academic journal articles. It is an invaluable tool for research, that I have used in some of my articles. Journals are typically held behind a high paywall, out of reach for the regular researcher. Academic journals make vast sums of money selling access to information that could help many people. As sci-hub goes against their stranglehold on information is is often censored, so many mirrors are available.

Sudo-flix is an open source application which scrapes video content from a wide range of servers. It offers a quick and easy way to watch tv shows or movies without a subscription or advertisements. It’s a nifty tool which makes it easy to access content without having to hop between limited streaming providers who nowadays force advertisements even onto paying customers. Instances do change from time to time but anybody can become a host, and hosts are not committing a crime as they simply provide the bridge between user and files.

Daddylive is a site which hosts live streams of most TV channels worldwide. It is an excellent tool for researching across digital borders. For example in the UK the Russian news agency RT is banned from broadcasting so you will only see one side of the debate. Recently Al Jazeera based in Qatar has come under censorship for its coverage of Gaza. There is a huge selection of worldwide TV available for free.

Libgen or Library Genesis is a huge repository of information. It is a great resource for research with millions of ebooks, scientific journals, articles and more. All available for free. It is a cypherpunk attempt at creating a Library of Babylon whereby a vast sum of human knowledge can be preserved and accessed by all.
